Bennett started off the season particularly strong with 250+ passing yards and a rushing touchdown in each of the first four games. That streak came to a close at Missouri. Still that showing was one of four outings this year where Bennett has thrown for at least 300 yards. Bennett was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after his three-touchdown outing (two passing, one rushing) against Tennessee. This past Saturday, he had a season-high three touchdown passes for the Bulldogs in a 45-19 win over Mississippi State. The victory moved Georgia to 10-0 on the season and clinched its spot in the SEC Championship Game on December 3rd.
Up next in the process for the Davey O’Brien Award is fan voting from now through Friday, November 25th. Three finalists will be announced two weeks from today on Tuesday, November 29th before another round of fan voting. The fan vote is just one part of the selection process with the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee also weighing in with its take. Fans voting takes place on the award’s three social media accounts—Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The top five vote getters on each platform will receive bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the National Selection Committee. In the end, the winner will be announced on Thursday, December 8th as a part of The Home Depot College Football Awards show held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Bennett and the Bulldogs go on the road this week to take on Kentucky. Kickoff time from Kroger Field in Lexington is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
