Third-year safety Chris Peal is fourth Georgia player to enter spring transfer portal

Georgia has been aggressive in adding players in the April 2025 transfer portal window but it has also lost a few guys. It lost its fourth on Tuesday when redshirt sophomore defensive back Chris Peal made it known that he will be seeking a transfer.
The North Carolina native and one-time Michigan lean signed with Georgia in the 2023 class. He has battled injuries since arriving in Athens, ones that caused him to miss reps and eventually get lost in the shuffle.
Peal was originally recruited to play cornerback with his sub 10.5-second speed in the 100 meters. He was moved to safety prior to the 2024 season. He joins the likes of fourth-year running back Branson Robinson, second-year wide receiver Nitro Tuggle, and second-year offensive lineman Marques Easley. Tuggle has already committed to Purdue.
Georgia fought Michigan hard to land Peal in the 2023 class. After taking an official visit to Ann Harbor in September of 2022, many thought he would ultimately sign with the Wolverines. He also took official visits to NC State and South Carolina. Once October rolled around Georgia was able to get Peal to think back to his official visit to Athens back in June.

As a prospect Peal finished the 2023 cycle with a four-star rating per the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the No. 167 overall prospect and No. 21 cornerback per those rankings. He was the No. 5 player in North Carolina.
Georgia’s defensive backs coach at the time, Fran Brown, gained Peal’s commitment. He was unable to enroll early in the 2023 class. Peal was then hampered by a foot injury during UGA’s 2023 preseason camp. That cost him a lot of reps and set him back from a development standpoint. His UGA debut came in the Capital One Orange Bowl blowout of Florida State.
After battling other nagging injuries, Peal suffered a shoulder injury in his first spring with the team in 2024. Surgery to repair a torn labrum knocked him out for most of preseason camp and, again, got him off to a slow start.
