Three top team performances from high school football in Georgia
High school football got back on track over the weekend. Games got back going after the devasting impacts of Hurricane Helene slowed the schedule to a halt.
Some of the games that were rescheduled around the state were then impacted by a fire at BioLab in Conyers.
Friday saw a nearly full slate of games. There were some big games on that slate and out of that were some big-time performances.
Here are three that resonated.
Carrollton continues its march with a big region win
Carrollton, the No. 1 ranked team in the On3’s High School Football Rankings based on the Massey Ratings, defeated Westlake 63-27 on Friday night.
Westlake came in with a 3-3 record and had been seen as one of the contenders in Region 2 in 6A. They came led by four-star Tennessee commit Travis Smith and four-star Georgia commit Juan Gaston.
Carrollton completely overwhelmed Westlake behind 325 yards passing and six touchdowns from USC commit Julian Lewis. The five-star signal caller played distributor on Friday night.
Lewis completed passes to eight different receivers on Friday night. Carrollton was in the state championship game two years ago.
The Trojans have had their eyes on redemption since. They are older. They’ve been supplemented on defense by a group of transfers on the defense.
This has become a complete and hungry club with a lot of momentum as the back half of the schedule begins. A titanic matchup looms on Nov. 1 for a shot to clinch the region title likely on the line.
Valdosta makes a statement against Camden County
Valdosta sent a bit of buzz around the state on Saturday. They ran to a 56-37 win over Camden County, which features five-star Georgia tight end commit Elyiss Wiliams.
It was a Georgia commit that helped lead the way. Valdosta quarterback Todd Robinson will play in Georgia’s secondary on Saturdays but at the high school level, he is an electric dual-threat quarterback.

Robinson’s arm and legs helped create some big splash plays for Valdosta on Saturday to earn the big region win.
Valdosta is now in a strong position as region play kicks off. Camden County was a state semifinal team in 2023 and return a lot of talent.
Having that win points them in a good direction before dates with Colquitt and the ‘Winnersville Classic’ against Lowdes in November.
Sprayberry becoming a team to know
Sprayberry has burst onto the scene in 2024. Two major prospects Mark Manfred and 2026 four-star Jorden Edmonds have been dominant on offense and defense.
Jaden Duckett has emerged as a major playmaker at the quarterback position. He’s averaging around 73 yards per game as a rusher. He’s also distributed the ball to Manfred and Edmonds. The two combine for 876 yards and six touchdowns on the season.
The Yellow Jackets coasted to a 41-21 win over Creekview on Friday night. Ducket had 296 total yards and five total touchdowns (4 rushing) on Friday night.
That was Sprayberry’s third region win. They have a shot to win the region overall but already have one loss in region play.
It seems they are beginning to play good football at the right time to make a run at the title and have a solid playoff run in 5A.
