Georgia is a down a commit for the Class of 2024, as four-star tight end Landen Thomas of Moultrie, Georgia’s Colquitt County High School has flipped his pledge to the Florida State Seminoles.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, as well as the top tight end of the cycle, Thomas had been committed to Georgia since July 7 of 2022 and was the second longest-tenured commit of the class prior to his decommitment.

The 6-foot-4, 238-pound Thomas opted to spend Saturday not in Athens for G-Day, however, but instead in Tallahassee, a trip he broke down with Warchant’s Matt LaSerre:

“I got back on campus, and I forgot how I feel about it down here,” Thomas told LaSerre. “It just feels comfortable down here. Like I feel like I’m home. Like I belong…Our relationship has gotten really strong. The coaches have always kept a relationship and told me they were going to be with me from the beginning to the end. They kept their word. … They always stayed consistent with me.”

Thomas was previously committed to Florida State, with that pledge lasting from April of 2021 until October of the same year.

While replacing a top player at a position is never easy, Georgia has a number of tight end offers out in the Class of 2024, including to in-state star Caleb Odom of Carrollton High School and On300 No. 1 tight end Jaden Reddell. Portal High School’s Amir Jackson will also be a prospect for fans to keep their eyes on.

Tight ends coach Todd Hartley has proven himself to be one of the nation’s best at recruiting the spot, as well, so the Dawgs are in quite capable hands.

On3 Scouting Report on Landen Thomas

“Easily one of the most fluid movers in the entire 2024 cycle. Thomas has delicious movement skills that are rare for the tight end position. His ability to maneuver in and out of his routes with loose hips and buttery cuts is top tier amongst all pass catchers. Stands in at nearly 6-foot-4, 240 pounds with over a 6-foot-6 wingspan. Can win at all levels on the field including vertically up the seam. Shows impressive flashes of acrobatic catch ability and a wide catch radius. Has some focus drops that he can clean up but has plus ball skills. Willing blocker but not a hammer in the run game. Can function as an in-line Y but not his wheelhouse. Will be an extremely reliable target at the next level and will constantly work himself open. One of the safest players in the country with top 100 NFL draft potential.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
