Tom Crean’s Georgia obligations seem to be a formality at this point.

Today, Crean spoke with reporters before Georgia’s first game in the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs tip off Wednesday night against Vanderbilt at 8:30pm ET.

The time between now and the end of that game feel like a slog toward the inevitable.

The AJC’s Chip Towers reported this morning that Tom Crean’s Georgia career is all but over.

Obviously, it came up this afternoon.

“I’m really just focused on doing my job, and I think any questions about my future would have to go to the athletic department, because I’m just locked in to what I’m trying to do,” Crean told reporters.

Tom Crean and Georgia set the wrong kind of SEC record

With its season finale loss to Missouri, Tom Crean and Georgia basketball became the first SEC team in history to lose 25 games in a season.

Georgia, the 14-seed, brings a 6-25 record to its SEC Tournament opener against 11-seed Vanderbilt. The Dawgs lost 11 straight games to finish the regular season.

“I’m not reflective when you’re still in the season. So, I’m really locked in on Vanderbilt and what we need to do there and what we could do if we advanced from that,” Crean said.

“That’s really where my mind has been – where we can get better from each game, what we try to improve on, what we try to make up for, those types of things. That’s where I’m at.”

UGA hired Tom Crean in 2018. Under his leadership, Georgia basketball is 47-74.

The 2021 season, in particular, leaves a lot to be desired as Georgia more than likely looks to replace Crean.

There’s been writing on the wall on the court, and off.

Assistant coach Wade Mason recently parted ways with Georgia after a physical altercation in the locker room at halftime of a loss to LSU.

Whatever happens at the SEC Tournament, unless we witness a miracle run, Crean probably won’t have to answer questions about his career at Georgia much longer.
