Tom Crean, Georgia basketball end season in SEC Tourney loss to Vandy
Tom Crean and Georgia’s long nightmare of a 2021-22 basketball season came to a close with a 86-51 loss to Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
Georgia – which set a SEC single-season record for regular losses with 25 – lost what is all but confirmed to be Tom Crean’s final game as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
“You know what, anything with my situation, it’s just gotta go to the athletic department, right? That’s not a thing that I spend a lot of time on,” Crean told reporters after the loss.
“I just coach this team everyday. That’s what my focus is.”
Any hopes of a valiant fight for Tom Crean’s honor ended in the first half.
Heading into the locker room at halftime, the Bulldogs had a season-low 14 points.
Nothing came easily for Tom Crean’s Georgia basketball team Wednesday night
The Dawgs shot just 29.8% from the field and 11.1% from beyond the 3-point line.
Conversely, shots fell much easier for the Commodores. Vandy hit 14 three-pointers on the night.
Vanderbilt’s Scotty Pippen Jr. finished the game with 14 points. He got to rest most of the game.
