Georgia landed the commitment of 2024 ATH Dwight Phillips Jr. on Saturday, a top-100 player in the country according to the On3 Consensus. Ranked the No. 82 player and No. 6 athlete, Phillips hails from the Peach State’s Pebblebrook High School (Mapleton, Ga.).
Phillips chose the Bulldogs during his visit on Saturday over offers from the likes of Auburn, Louisville and North Carolina – all of whom held at least a 10% chance to get his commitment according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine – among others.
Phillips, the son of former Olympian Dwight Phillips Sr. – who won a gold medal in long jump during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece – is expected to play running back at the next level. Georgia currently has DeMatha Catholic running back Tovani Mizell, the No. 6 running back in the class, committed. On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons writes that Phillips had 4.2 speed in the 40-yard-dash.
“Just the coaching staff,” Phillips said in an interview with On3’s Hayes Fawcett as one of the reasons he chose Georgia. “They are the best coaching staff in the country and I feel like coach McGhee can develop me as a person, in football and outside of football. They are the best in the country and I wanna be a part of it.”

“They plan on using me as a running back but putting me at slot and wideout,” Phillips added. “It means everything. I was just thinking , ‘Why not just stay at home and build your legacy?’”
Phillips joins a Georgia 2024 class currently ranked No. 2 in the country with the Bulldogs with nine commits on board now. Tight end Landen Thomas, the No. 1 player for his position according to the On3 Consensus, leads the way with a couple of defensive backs not far behind him. St. John Bosco safety Peyton Woodyard committed to Georgia on January 7th just days before safety Jaylen Heyward did the same less than a week later on the 13th. Woodyard and Heyward come in at No. 34 and No. 42 overall respectively and are joined by fellow top-50 commits linebacker Demarcus Riddick (No. 43) and wide receiver Ny Carr (No. 49) in the class. The previously mention Mizell, quarterback Ryan Puglisi and wide receiver Sacovie White round things out.
