Georgia is down to one running back pledge for the 2024 cycle. Tovani Mizell has decided to reopen his commitment.

“I would like to announce that I will be decommitting from the University of Georgia,” Mizell wrote in a statement released via Twitter. “My recruitment is now 100% open.”

The 6-foot-1 193-pound ball carrier gave his pledge to the Bulldogs back in August. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has UCF and Florida as the teams to beat for his services going forward.

Mizell is viewed as the nation’s No. 233 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the nation’s No. 19 running back and No. 8 prospect in Maryland.

“Tovani Mizell impressed with his receiving skills at OT7, coming down the the best catches we saw from a running back not named Rueben Owens. We saw the Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Newman product come down a fantastic leaping touchdown catch, finishing with a toe tap in the corner of the end zone on Thursday. It’s always good to see running back prospects with receiver-level ball skills and that looks to be the case with Mizell” — On 3 Scouting

Georgia remains on top…

The Bulldogs still have the No. 1-ranked class for the 2024 cycle despite being down to nine commitments. They also have a big-time running back committed in Dwight Phillips (Pebblebrook; Mabeleton, Ga.) Phillips is one of the fastest prospects in the 2024 class and is ranked No. 81 overall and No. 6 at his position.

Georgia also signed a four-star running back in the 2023 class. It went out to San Diego, Calif. to get 6-foot-1, 225-pound Roderick Robinson. He is already on campus.

Current situation at running back…

The Bulldogs’ current backfield situation includes a pair of seniors in Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards. Both have eligibility left for the 2024 season due to the COVID year in 2020.

Branson Robinson and Andrew Paul are also on campus. They signed with Georgia in the 2022 class. Paul didn’t play due to a torn ACL and Robinson saw limited action during the Bulldogs’ National Championship run.
