Travon Walker NFL Draft hype: more of a #1 overall possibility than ever
Travon Walker to Jacksonville passed the ‘hype’ phase.
It appears the former Georgia defensive lineman draws legitimate interest from Jacksonville as the Jaguars’ number one overall pick.
Until recently, Michigan‘s Aidan Hutchinson appeared to be the lone favorite at number one.
Now, Travon Walker isn’t just a long shot.
He appears to be a legit candidate.
The NFL Network’s Peter Schrager fueled more Travon Walker hype Monday morning
Schrager, a host on the NFL Network’s ‘Good Morning Football,’ pointed out Jacksonville’s draft history.
Time and time again, it appears as if the Jaguars draft players with more athleticism than college stats.
Schrager, and anyone who watched Travon Walker in college, acknowledge the fact that Georgia’s terror of a defensive lineman fits that bill.
In his segment, Schrager cites discussions within “coaching staffs and front offices” as the source of his conclusion on Walker.
Take a look at the full segment below:
One other observation on Trent Baalke / Walker:
Schrager’s co-host, Mike Garafolo added on to the Baalke / Travon Walker connection on Twitter.
Not only does Baalke have a history of picking players like Walker (one of those players being Aldon Smith) Travon Walker physically reminds him of Smith.
I know. Mock drafts, NFL whispers, and hype amount to very little before that first pick really comes in.

However, this latest development surrounding Travon Walker, paired with other recent rumblings, really makes you wonder.
Kirby Smart is yet to have one of his Georgia players go number one overall in the NFL Draft.
Each of the past four top overall picks (Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, and Baker Mayfield) played in the College Football Playoff.
Whether it’s Hutchinson, or Walker, that streak is likely to continue in this year’s NFL Draft.
To take it one step further, each of the past two top picks (Burrow, Lawrence) won a National Championship in their college careers.
Will Walker keep that streak going, too?
He told us at Georgia’s Pro Day that he would not attend the NFL Draft in Las Vegas. At the time, he was a top-five projected pick at best.
A few weeks later, it seems like Travon Walker may have a decision to make about that Draft party.
