Travon Walker receives Trevor Lawrence's blessing in Jacksonville
Travon Walker and Trevor Lawrence share a unique distinction with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both are consecutive number-one overall NFL Draft picks. Both play for the same team.
In the NFL, that means things aren’t going too great for your franchise.
While that is historically the case for Jacksonville, Travon Walker also represents something positive for the Jags:
The first step away from their disastrous Urban Meyer era.
“Offensively and defensively, in my eyes I think it’s night and day from where we were last year,” Lawrence told Jaguars media this week.
Trevor Lawrence: Big Travon Walker guy
Trevor Lawrence had to start his NFL career playing for Meyer, and no one deserved that.
The former Clemson Natty Winner gets a breath of fresh air in his second NFL season with head coach Doug Pederson in to steady the ship.
Jacksonville elected to go with defense at number one in the 2022 NFL Draft as a counterbalance to Lawrence, their offensive cornerstone.
Lawrence couldn’t hide his excitement to see the Jags’ big picture start taking shape with Travon Walker.
“He looks the part for sure. His demeanor, I enjoy being around him,” Lawrence said.
“Really calm guy. Humble. Hard worker. Then obviously you see him, and you see why he’s a number one pick and all that. His personality, I’m excited to get to know him more. That’s the type of personality that I jell with.”
Georgia boys reunite in Jacksonville
Both Travon Walker (Upson-Lee) and Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville) came out of Georgia high schools. Following Andrew Thomas in 2020, the Peach State currently has a run of three straight top-five NFL Draft picks.

“Trevor was definitely a legend in the whole state of Georgia, he had all the records. He was well known and I got to know him going on visits,” Walker said.
“I remember meeting (Travon), and would kind of follow him loosely through college. Georgia’s team last year was so stacked. I was at the game when he played Clemson the first game of the season, so I got to see him firsthand. Now playing together is pretty cool,” Lawrence said.
Walker had a good night against Lawrence’s beloved Clemson Tigers, with four total tackles and a sack in a 10-3 Georgia win.
But no one would have predicted he would become the NFL’s number one overall draft pick a few months later.
Walker stayed consistent on a Georgia defense that operated on rotation and team excellence. The NFL combine and dominant film from Walker combined to convince Jacksonville that he was their guy at number one.
Now he and his fellow Georgia high school legend have some serious work to do in Jacksonville’s post-Urban Meyer era.
