WATCH: New Georgia WR pledge Tyler Williams in action
Georgia added a massive piece to its 2023 recruiting class Tuesday night when Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) wide receiver Tyler Williams chose the Bulldogs over South Carolina, Miami, Texas A&M and a number of other programs.
At 6-foot-3 200 pounds, Tyler Williams is the nation’s No. 124 overall prospect and No. 20 wide receiver per the On3 consensus, which takes into account On3’s rankings plus those from three other outlets. Those rankings see him as the No. 27 overall prospect in Florida.
The On3 stand-alone rankings, however, have a higher opinion of Tyler Williams. There he is seen as the nation’s No. 53 overall prospect, No. 7 wide receiver, and No. 12 player in the Sunshine State.
“I already feel like part of the Georgia family,” Williams told On3. “When I was up at Georgia late in July, I knew I was going there. They treated me like I was already there and I have always felt like family at Georgia. Georgia is the place for me.”
UGA wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon has served as Williams’ primary recruiter. He used the relationship he began forming with Tyler Williams while he was at Miami to help land the four-star talent.

“It started when B-Mac was at Miami,” Williams said. “He got on me there, then as soon as he went to Georgia, it got even stronger. He is a great coach and he can help me as a receiver, but he is like family.
“It is more than player-coach with me and B-Mac. I trust him. I can go to him with anything. Even if I would not have chosen Georgia, I know we still would have talked. It is just different with him. He was definitely part of my decision.”
Former basketball-first athlete who blossomed as a wide receiver after transferring to powerhouse Lakeland High as a junior. Has a natural, well-rounded skill set at receiver. A big, fluid mover at around 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Has plus length for the position with 33.5-inch arms. Draws on his basketball background to win at the catch point. High-points and attacks the ball in contested situations. Shows good lateral agility and spatial awareness as a runner after the catch. Continues to be a top basketball player, averaging over 15 points per game as a junior. Will need to continue progressing in the technical aspects of his game given his lack of football focus to this point.
On3 Scouting
Georgia now has three wide receiver commitments with Tyler Williams in the fold. He joins Raymond Cottrell (Milton; Milton, Ga.), who is a four-star prospect, and Yazeed Haynes (North Penn; Lansdale, Pa.), a three-star prospect.
Tyler Williams is in just his second season at the wide receiver position. He played quarterback earlier in his high school career. Georgia’s 2023 class currently ranks No. 2 in the nation per the On3 consensus, trailing only Alabama.
