Georgia defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, just three days after the end of spring practice for the Bulldogs. Mitchell, a rising fourth-year junior, has played in eight career games since 2019, making 11 tackles during that time.

Mitchell is the 11th Georgia player to enter the portal this offseason and the first defensive linemen to do so.

Cornerback Ameer Speed and wide receiver Jaylen Johnson both put their names in within 24 hours of the Bulldogs bringing home the National Championship in January. Speed will play at Michigan State next season where he’ll join former Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker who helped recruit Speed to Athens. Johnson committed to East Carolina. Then, another cornerback-wide receiver pairing put their names in. This time it was Jalen Kimber and Justin Robinson. Georgia will play against both Kimber and Robinson next season as they land at Florida and Mississippi State respectively. Defensive back Latavious Brini was the fifth Georgia player to enter the transfer portal, and he too will be playing for an SEC squad next season at Arkansas. Wide receiver Jermaine Burton is going through spring drills in Tuscaloosa with the Alabama Crimson Tide after he entered the transfer portal, while quarterback JT Daniels will head to West Virginia. Lovasea Carroll is out of Athens after just one year, transferring to South Carolina where the Gamecocks have him listed as a running back, his high school position, as opposed to cornerback where he spent his season at Georgia. Finally, on the first day of spring practice, offensive lineman Owen Condon put his name into the portal. He has since committed to SMU.

Meanwhile, former five-star offensive linemen Amarius Mims and Clay Webb both entered the transfer portal with Mims since taking his name out and deciding to stay at Georgia.

Georgia’s defensive line is being tasked with filling the big shoes left behind by Travon Walker, Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt. Those three will all be drafted in next week’s NFL Draft while longtime member of the group Julian Rochester is also gone. Now without Mitchell, there’s even more pressure on the likes of Jalen Carter, Zion Logue, Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson to step up on the interior.
