WATCH: Brock Bowers gets Georgia on board with 75-yard TD
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers picked up where he left off last Saturday with a big play touchdown on the second play of the game. The sophomore out of Napa, Calif. took it 75 to the house to put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 early over Kent State.
Bowers was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this week for his three touchdown day at South Carolina. Two of those were receiving scores with the other being a rushing touchdown. In total, Bowers accounted for 126 yards on the day.
“Well, I think the entire offensive staff takes on that burden,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about the responsibility that falls upon offensive coordinator Todd Monken to get the ball in the hands of Bowers. “And, you know, he (Monken) delegates a lot of presentations just like we do on defense. And each coach has their area of expertise, whether that be third down, red area, goal line, short yardage, perimeter. I mean, there’s just a lot of facets that go into it. Each guy has to come up with a play. You can imagine each guy in his presentation is trying to get the ball to a playmaker in a few different ways. We’ve got a few of those guys that you got to get touches to. He’s (Bowers) certainly one that I think certainly everyone tries to find ways to get creative. You have to move him around because people know he’s going to be a target.”
Bowers was named to the AP and Coaches’ All-SEC First Team last season finishing as the team’s leading wide receiver. He started 13 of 15 games for the Bulldogs at tight end, hauling in 56 catches for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns, the most receiving touchdowns by a player at any position in program history. On top of the All-SEC honors, Bowers won SEC Freshman of the Year from both the AP and Coaches, also taking home National Freshman of the Year awards from the Football Writers Association of America. Despite all that, this is Bowers first time winning SEC Offensive Player of the Week, however, he did take home SEC Freshman of the Week twice last year, once after a three-touchdown day versus Vanderbilt and again after catching five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns against Kentucky.

Coming into today, Bowers had 10 catches, 216 yards and his two touchdowns from Saturday. He’s also been a big part of Georgia’s perimeter blocking, helping clear the path for Ladd McConkey on the Bulldogs’ first touchdown of the season.
The game is underway and streaming on SEC Network+ and ESPN+ with No. 1 ranked Georgia leading the Golden Flashes 7-3 midway through the first quarter.
