WATCH: Dillon Bell makes man miss at RB for 21-yard touchdown
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sophomore receiver Dillon Bell played running back in high school. He told reporters this past week that he had gotten a few reps at the position given the team’s depth concerns there, and it paid off with an impressive 21-yard touchdown against Ball State.
On just two carries, Bell has 31 yards including the touchdown.
Bell played in all 15 games for Georgia last season, starting five of them. He had 20 receptions for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Last week against UT-Martin, the Houston, Texas native had three catches for 32 yards including a long of 17.
Georgia’s options at running back have been limited so far this season. The Bulldogs only have five scholarship backs on the roster, one of whom (Branson Robinson) went down with a season-ending injury during fall camp. Meanwhile, Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards have both battled injuries as well, leaving the team at times with a pair of freshmen that had not played prior to this season and/or walk-ons at the position.

“Dillon, we need at wideout, we need Dillon on special teams,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart previously said when asked about the possibility of Bell at running back. “Dillon has had a really good camp in terms of being a wide receiver. He played that (RB) some in high school so that’s something he’s done before. With the way offenses are these days, you can get your touches a lot of ways, and we’ve got a lot of plays that involve perimeter blocking, direct runs, perimeter runs.”
Georgia leads Ball State 21-0 in the second quarter on SEC Network. The Bulldogs got on the board with a punt-return from walk-on receiver Mekhi Mews before Carson beck found Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the end zone for the second score. Defensive, Georgia has a pair of turnovers with interceptions by Malaki Starks and Chaz Chambliss.
