The Georgia Bulldogs landed their fifth defensive back commit of the 2025 cycle on Saturday in the form of Jontae Gilbert, with the Dawgs overcoming the NC State Wolfpack for his services. A versatile defender from Atlanta’s Douglass High, Gilbert is the twenty-third commitment of the class.

He joins a defensive back class of fellow four-star prospects Shamari Earls of Thomas Dale High (Chester, Virginia), Todd Robinson of Valdosta High (Valdosta, Georgia), Jaylan Morgan of Rockvale High (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), and Rashad Johnson of South Sumter High (Bushnell, Florida).

Gilbert ticks the tape at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and brings versatility to play across the defensive backfield, though Georgia seems to like the Peach State-based defender for the cornerback spot. He puts his ample talents on display below.

He ranks as the No. 135 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 per the On3 Industry Ranking and checks in as the No. 16 cornerback and No. 16 player in Georgia there, as well.

A former Ohio State, Gilbert saw multiple schools make runs at him over the course of his recruitment, but a summer press from the Bulldogs saw them win out for his services.

He bolsters a strong cycle for the Dawgs in the secondary and adds to Georgia’s No. 4 ranked class nationally, bringing his strong coverage skills, physicality, and a ready-made frame for the next level.
