WATCH: Highlights of new Georgia commitment Jordan Smith

Georgia is now up to No. 6 in the On3 Industry team rankings after adding Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.) safety Jordan Smith. At 6-foot-2 180 pounds, Smith is the nation’s No. 75 overall prospect and No. 6 safety per the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He’s the No. 7 player in Georgia.
One quick look at his junior highlights will help you understand why the Bulldogs made him such a priority. Smith is a multi-faceted weapon for the Bears, serving as a ball hawk and tackling machine at safety and a play-maker with the ball in his hands on special teams.
As a junior Smith racked up 85 total tackles and three tackles for loss. He also had seven passes defended, a pair of interceptions, one fumble recovery and caused another fumble.
“Development played a big role in my decision,” Smith told On3. “Being around a culture where winning and competing is everything meant a lot too. It’s also not too far from home.”

The past four NFL Drafts have seen Georgia get two safeties, Lewis Cine and Malaki Starks, selected in the first round. The Bulldogs have also had three other safeties picked in that time with one going in the second round (Javon Bullard) , one in the third round (Tykee Smith), and one in the fifth round (Chris Smith).
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was also an All-SEC safety in his day. That’s something that caught Smith’s eye during the recruiting process.
“Being that Kirby played defensive back at Georgia makes this even more meaningful,” Smith said. “I have a strong bond with Donte too. It’s something new I learn about the game every time we talk. I have really connected with the whole staff at Georgia.”
