Jalen Carter and Stetson Bennett had some work to do at Georgia’s Pro Day. Other Dawgs did, too, of course.
But there may be no two Georgia players in this year’s NFL Draft – maybe even players in general – with more to prove between now and selection day.
Jalen Carter didn’t work out at the NFL Combine.
He answered questions and had to go back to Athens due to his charges of reckless driving and racing in connection with the tragic wreck that took the lives of teammate Devin Willock and Georgia staffer Chandler LeCroy.
Georgia’s Pro Day gave Carter a chance to show off some of his physical skills. He reportedly showed up at 323 pounds – nine pounds heavier than his NFL Combine weigh-in.
Scouts worked him hard. Can one Pro Day stop his reported Draft slide? Could it make that slide even more drastic?
When they’re already looking for more reasons not to draft you, or they come in with preconceived notions about your character or work ethic, it could be a big deal. It could mean nothing.
We’ll find out on Draft Day.
Stetson Bennett throwing on air again
How much do scouts learn from a player throwing on air?
Stetson Bennett isn’t a projected first-round draft pick like Jalen Carter is.
But just like Jalen Carter, teams are looking for all of the information they can get on the Mailman due to his negative qualities in their eyes.
His height at 5’11” is just one inch taller than Bryce Young, whose height is widely documented as being ‘short.’

Bennett did run a 4.6 forty yard-dash at the NFL Combine, and even that looked like a leisurely saunter instead of a sprint. He also stole the show with several deep balls.
In Athens, though, Bennett had a couple more stumbles here and there with his passes. It wasn’t a disaster of a day.
He still showcased plenty of arm strength and accuracy throwing to former teammates Arian Smith, Darnell Washington, Kenny McIntosh, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Dillon Bell, Matt Landers, and his brother, Luke Bennett.
But it also wan’t perfect. He had some passes go behind his receivers at times.
Again, does it matter?
Can one workout make him a bust in the eyes of all 32 scouts in attendance?
Doubt it.
But Stetson Bennett ain’t for everybody. And if any scouts were already wary of him coming in, I don’t know if the Mailman changed their minds.
On the flipside, I don’t know if he played his way out of the minds of scouts who are all about Bennett’s potential in the league.
Of course, these weren’t the only Dawgs in the spotlight today. Check out what Kirby Smart, Darnell Washington, Nolan Smith and Kelee Ringo had to say about the Pro Day extravaganza on our YouTube channel.
