WATCH: Stetson Bennett works out ahead of NFL Draft
Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett is getting ready to go pro. After exhausting all of his eligibility at the collegiate level, Bennett is working out in Dallas ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft when he hopes to hear his name called.
The experienced signal caller spent five seasons in Athens, starting games for the Bulldogs in each of the last three. Bennett served as the primary starter for Georgia the last two helping the program to its first National Championship in over four decades in 2021 before doing so again the following year. In 2022 Bennett started all 15 games for Georgia throwing for 4,127 yards – sixth best in the country – and 27 touchdowns on 310-of-454 (68.3%) passing. He also added 205 yards and 10 scores on the ground.
Bennett was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, the first Georgia quarterback to do so. He would eventually finish fourth in voting but did manage to bring home the Burlsworth Award for the nation’s best former walk-on and the Manning Award which takes into account postseason performance.
Bennett also earned MVP honors of the SEC Championship, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and National Championship Game during his super-senior season. Throwing for 304 yards and four touchdowns while adding two rushing scores Bennett tied the championship game record of Joe Burrow for points accounted for. It followed up a 2021 season in which he earned MVP honors in both the College Football Playoff semifinal and the championship game as well.

Bennett is in Dallas, Texas working out with Landry Klann who has trained the likes of Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush, both of whom have started games for the Dallas Cowboys in the last two seasons. Bennett will be one of 12 Georgia players participating in the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Bennett will be joined by running back Kenny McIntosh, wide receiver Kearis Jackson, tight end Darnell Washington, offensive linemen Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon, defensive lineman Jalen Carter, outside linebackers Robert Beal and Nolan Smith, defensive backs Kelee Ringo and Christopher Smith and kicker Jack Podlesny in the same stadium where they won the National Championship over Alabama in January 2022.
Bennett is considered a potential day two or three draft pick. Mel Kiper ranked draft eligible quarterbacks in January and had Bennett as the eighth-best behind Will Levis, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Clayton Tune, Joren Hall and Hendon Hooker while just ahead of Jake Haener and Tanner McKee. Max Duggan, Tyson Bagent, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Aidan O’Connell just missed the cut.
“Nobody can really give you any answer on Stetson Bennett other than, ‘Bryce Young is going to go in the top 5, where’s Stetson Bennett going to fall?’ This guy wins games; he’s a gutty competitor. He had guys leaving that program after last year, this year no fall back. He didn’t have all the pieces they had in 2021 this season. Yet he still leads his team to a national title,” Kiper said when speaking about Bennett. “He’ll draw comparisons to Drew Brees — throw that out, doesn’t mean anything. Because we’re always going to look at that six foot quarterback and say ‘If he’s accurate, he’s Drew Brees. So for me, Jake Haener [Fresno State], Stetson Bennett are in that next tier of quarterbacks.”
