AUSTIN, Tex. – Georgia got a massive road win on Saturday, taking down No. 1 Texas 30-15 in Austin. The win takes the Bulldogs from No. 4 to No. 2 in the latest US LBM / USA Today coaches’ poll, behind only Oregon. UGA got two first place votes while Oregon got 51.

Penn State comes in at No. 3 and Ohio State is the nation’s No. 4 team per the coaches. Miami sits at No. 5, followed by Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Clemson, and Iowa State, in that order, to round out the top 10. Alabama is now No. 15 after falling at Tennessee. Ole Miss fell three spots while on a bye to No. 18. Vanderbilt enters the coaches poll this week as the No. 25 team.

The coaches are among many who appear impressed with Georgia’s win at No. 1 Texas and that seems fair. The Bulldog defense racked up seven sacks and 10 tackles for a loss against a Longhorn offensive line that was considered one of the best in the country coming into the game.

Steve Sarkisian’s offense managed just 3.4 yards per play and it had just 38 yards at the half. In addition to not letting the Longhorns move the football, the Georgia defense forced turnovers and set the offense up with short fields. It allowed the Bulldogs to build a 23-0 lead at the half.

Texas bounced back with a 15-0 run in the second quarter, taking advantage of Carson Beck‘s third interception to get into the end zone for a second time. The response was Georgia’s best offensive showing of the day as Beck led the Bulldogs on an 11-play, 89-yard drive that ended with a Trevor Etienne touchdown, his third of the day, to essentially put the game away. The Longhorns tried to threaten multiple times after Georgia extended the lead but failed on fourth down the last three times they had the football.
