What Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz Said This Week About Georgia

by:Jack Mathison11/05/21

Coming off of a close win against the Vanderbilt Commodores, the Missouri Tigers are facing a tough challenge this Saturday in Athens. Although Missouri is currently 5th in the SEC East with a 4-4 (1-3) record, the Tigers could get a season-defining win if they knock off the Georgia Bulldogs.

This week we’ve kept you up to date on everything said by any Georgia player or coach, including head coach Kirby Smart. Now, we’ll take a look at second year Missouri head coach, Eliah Drinkwitz, and what he has had to say before Saturday’s matchup.

On the difference in Georgia’s quarterbacks

“I think Stetson has a little bit more ability in the run game. They do a little bit more with him in the quarterback read-and-run game. But other than that, Coach Monken calls it to their strengths. … You call the game to the strengths of your quarterbacks. … They both have that ability, I really don’t know that (the offense) changes that much.”

On Georgia being ranked No. 1

“Obviously as a head coach I’ve never gone against the No. 1 team in the country before, so that’s a pretty exciting opportunity … Are you kidding me? That’s what you do it for. Why else would you do it? I don’t want to live life in the shadows.”

On Georgia’s defense

“These guys are right there. They’ve got some really good players. Can really affect the quarterback. I got a lot of worries. I got to figure out how to block Jordan Davis and multiple other guys on that defensive front.”

On Georgia’s Coaching Staff

“I think Kirby Smart has clearly established himself as one of the best coaches in college football and one of the better coaches in our conference, does an outstanding job both in recruiting and player development. He’s got a tremendous staff led with veteran coaches who have head coaching experience like Will Muschamp as a special teams coordinator, Todd Monken, who was the head coach at Southern Miss before being an offensive coordinator in the NFL, does a tremendous job on the offensive side of the ball. Got Matt Luke who was a former head coach at Ole Miss, again does a tremendous job with that offensive line and their run game and they’ve been playing really well in the trenches.”

On Sanford Stadium’s Atmosphere

“Obviously watching the UAB game, the Arkansas game, the South Carolina game, all three teams had issues with false starts pre-snap so that’s something that we’ve got to work on and try to simulate in practice. They do, it’s not disconcerting signals, but they do a good job of barking a cadence and then the defensive line mimicking like they’re moving. It’s just up to whether that’s interpreted as disconcerting signals or whether or not it’s a legal movement call. You’ve got to handle it.”
