Georgia wideout Colbie Young was able to get his legal situation resolved on Wednesday as he pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The charges of domestic battery and endangering an unborn child were dropped, and that would seem to pave the way for Young to return to Athens. With that said, DawgsHQ is sharing the latest on what we’re hearing.

*** First and foremost, I have not spoken to one person connected to the program — on or off the record — who is willing to say that Young will be back or even that they expect him back. The tone is optimistic. You can tell that Georgia likes its chances, but no one is willing to just pop off about this thing. I suspect that’s because Young has been back working out and practicing with the team for awhile now and the decision to reinstate him, in some way, has already been made. But that’s just my thought on it.

*** With all of that said, I’m told that Young is attending classes for spring semester and is enrolled in classes for summer semester. That’s not the end all be all, but it’s a pretty good indication as to what he plans to do. A trusted source tells me that Young was able to take care of all of his academic work in the fall semester, too.

*** I’m also told that Young’s participation in the offseason throwing program thus far has been 100 percent. He has been out there for the large group work and the smaller groups. If you’ll remember back to bowl prep, when we knew that Young wasn’t going to play but Georgia was getting reps for everybody, sources told us that Young was turning heads then.

*** If pressed for a prediction, I’d obviously say that Young is not only a part of this team next year but a pretty important part. I’d be willing to bet that the scenarios that would allow Young to be reinstated for competition were outlined ahead of time and the way things played out falls under that umbrella. But I also don’t think Georgia is going to be in a big hurry to tell us that he’s back. In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked to hear Kirby Smart talk about it as if its an ongoing situation when he’s asked.

It’s worth mentioning that Rara Thomas had a fairly similar situation, lived to tell about it because of a pretrial diversion and got himself back into hot water. There’s a good chance that Georgia is very quiet and very careful because, why not.
