Covington (Ga.) Eastside 2025 edge Christian Gass is a secret no more.

The 2025 edge added an offer from Georgia on Tuesday. Prior to that, Tennessee, USC, Kansas and Cincinnati all extended offers to the unranked outside linebacker.

More are coming. Florida and others have already shown interest. Gass is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound outside linebacker with sub-11-second track speed.

“I knew when we got the highlight tape together (this was coming),” Eastside High School head coach Jay Cawthon said. “You see the measurables, you see the speed on film and the type of kid he is, he has all the intangibles, the grades and he has the drive. We knew it wasn’t going to take long for him to get out at his size and his speed.”

Christian Gass an evolving playmaker

Gass has evolved each year in high school. It may be part of what has kept him off the radar up until this point. In his freshman year, Gass was a safety.

In his sophomore year, he moved to the defensive line. This year, Gass played linebacker doubling as a pass rusher and a pass defender.

Cawthon credits Gass’s instincts. There is a lot of physical upside still remaining for Gass.

“His ceiling is high and his best football is ahead of him,” Gass said. “He’s still learning the game. Whatever school he goes to will put weight on him. He already has all the tools you need as a linebacker. He’s instinctive, reads well, he gets there with a purpose and he’s a physical football player.”

Gass concurs. The physicality he was able to inflict in 2023 was a refreshing epiphany for Gass.

“At safety, I felt like was too far away from everything,” Gass said with a grin stretching across his face. “I like hitting and getting straight to the action. I can drop back and go against the pass but I like being in the action… When I got to linebacker, I found myself. I can do a little bit of everything. It just fits me. I like to be everywhere. Wherever the ball is, that’s where I want to be.”

Covington pride shaping Gass

Gass didn’t grow up entrenched in watching college football. He has always been a Georgia fan. He didn’t follow his high school program closely until he got close to high school age.

Gass plays at the same school that produced former Georgia star Eric Stokes, a current Green Bay Packers cornerback.

Stokes has remained active in the Covington area. The former Bulldog’s work in his community has made an impression on the rising star.

“He’s around a lot,” Gass said. “He fundraises and gives back a lot around here a lot. If we have padded camps, he’s there, at games, he’s there. I never knew he was that involved. He’s very involved. It shows that he cares about the culture. You’re always going to miss your brothers…It was like, maybe that could be me too. If he can make it, maybe I can too.”
