No. 1 prospect, UGA target Williams Nwaneri expected to decide soon
Five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri, the No. 1 prospect in the On300, is one of the most sought-after prospects in the Class of 2024 for good reason.
Soon, the world will know where he plans to play his college football.
Lee’s Summit head football coach Jamar Mozee told On3’s Chad Simmons on Monday that Nwaneri ‘should be’ making an announcement concerning his future plans on August 1.
Currently, the Oklahoma Sooners are the frontrunners for Nwaneri’s services per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, given a 79.6-percent chance of landing the standout defender.
Georgia, however, made up some substantial ground over the course of this summer, with Nwaneri spending both an official and unofficial visit in Athens in the month of June.
Nwaneri was clear about that with Chad Simmons following his official the first weekend of the month.

“They did a great job,” Nwaneri told Simmons at that time. “I feel like they set the bar really high. With them setting the bar high, it’s going to be easy to compare them to the other OVs that are coming up.”
It should be no surprise that the Dawgs are pushing so hard, given how they believe Nwaneri compares with one of the best players currently donning the red and black.
“They want to use me in a really similar way to how they use Mykel (Williams),” said Nwaneri. “Basically, I’d be a big end and also play a little bit at JACK. The JACK is standing up, moving around, dropping into coverage. It’s basically the same thing, just coming off the EDGE.”
Williams Nwaneri is considered to be looking most heavily at Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri currently.
On3 Scouting Report on Williams Nwaneri
“The most physically-gifted defensive line prospect early on in the 2024 cycle. Has an elite frame, measuring in at over 6-foot-6 with a 7-foot wing-span and an 11-inch hand. Moves very well for his size. Clocked a sub-5.0-second electronically-timed 40-yard dash prior to his junior season. Also shows fluidity with change of direction in the camp setting. Flashed some of his high-end potential as a sophomore, showing the ability to create disruption from multiple spots on the defensive line. Has the range and athleticism to run down skill players from behind. Still developing in terms of technical skill at the position but has immense upside and capacity for improvement. Could project to a number of spots along the defensive front, but looks to be a defensive lineman long-term given his frame and potential to add substantial mass.” – On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power on Williams Nwaneri
