Indiana Basketball has landed their first commitment in the 2027 class as top-50 guard Chase Branham as committed to Indiana.

Darian DeVries and Indiana Basketball have landed their first commitment in the 2027 class as top-50 guard Chase Branham has committed to Indiana, per Joe Tipton.

Branham arrived in Bloomington on Friday for his second visit, and DeVries wasted no time in locking in his commitment.

The 6-foot-4 guard is ranked as the No. 42 overall player in the nation, according to the 2027 Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 12-ranked shooting guard and No. 4 player out of Missouri.

Branham, from Logan-Rogersville High (MO), chose Indiana over offers from Tennessee, Iowa, Missouri, Purdue, Creighton, and others.

There has been talks about Branham reclassifying to the 2026 class but nothing has been confirmed.

In a brief interview with Rivals, Branham discussed his decision to choose IU.

“I’ve had the feeling since the first visit. Just felt a connection. From the coaches, to the players, to the place, it just felt like home.”

Branham spoke to the Hoosier about his recruitment after his first visit and had a lot of positive things to say about DeVries and Indiana basketball.

“He’s a very down-to-earth guy and is a someone who is very easy to talk to. He seems like the kind of coach every kid would want to play for,” Branham told TheHoosier of DeVries following his first visit. “He told me he lets his guys go and trust their work. He told me he isn’t the one playing so he lets his guys go make plays. That’s something that really stood out to me.

“Coach DeVries showing me a side by side of them getting up and down and shooting threes in transition, playing with actions, coming of cuts, playing on the ball, and off the ball and then me doing those things in AAU and School ball. But also telling me I’m the type of kid they want in their program.”

Branham averaged 19.2 points while shooting 61.9 percent from the floor as a sophomore. He averaged 17.9 points as a freshman.

He is a terrific scorer with the ball in his hands and attacking the basket, but he’s best making plays for his teammates and setting the tone that way. Branham worked a lot this summer on when to pick his spots, while not pressing. He is a skilled three-point shooter and an effective all-around decision-maker.

Branham is the first commitment of Indiana’s 2027 class and the second high school player to commit to DeVries and the Hoosiers.
