Indiana guard Anthony Leal applying for wavier to receive an extra year of eligibility

Indiana senior guard Anthony Leal is seeking a sixth season of eligibility and has applied for a waiver to play in the 2025-26 season, sources confirm with TheHoosier.com.

Anthony Leal has played five seasons at Indiana — including receiving a covid year, which he played with this season.
Across five seasons, Leal made 95 appearances but has never played more than 26 games in a season, and has played 20 or less games two seasons. The 2022-23 season saw Leal make just 11 appearances and play just 24 total minutes.
The Bloomington South (Ind.) guard and former Indiana Mr. Basketball played a career high 21 minutes a game during the 2024-25 season when he started 14 of 26 games played. He averaged 3.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists a game and shot 41.2 percent from three (7-of-17).

He made 13 of his 14 starts in Big Ten play and averaged 28.1 minutes a game across those 13 Big Ten starts. He played 30+ minutes eight times.
Indiana basketball currently has 11 scholarship players for the upcoming season. The NCAA allows teams to carry 15 scholarship players beginning during the 2025-26 year.
