Indiana guard Tucker DeVries 'awaiting final clearance' in recovery from shoulder injury

Indiana basketball guard Tucker DeVries is nearing a full return to the court after a season-ending shoulder injury limited him to just eight games last season at West Virginia.
The 6-foot-7 senior, who transferred to Indiana to play for his father, new head coach Darian DeVries, has been diligently rehabbing his right shoulder — the same shoulder that required surgery back in March 2024.
Coach DeVries provided an update on his son’s progress during Hoosier Connect’s annual NIL event at Huber’s Orchard & Winery.

“For the most part, we are getting closer. We are awaiting final clearance for full contact,” Darian DeVries said. “He’s able to do all the shooting drill work, lifting that’s modified a little bit. I think by the time we get rolling here next week, he should be fully cleared for full contact.”
Recent footage shared by Bloomington-based trainer Jordan Basye showcases Tucker’s shooting form and mobility, indicating a positive trajectory in his rehabilitation.
In the video, DeVries appears comfortable and confident — a promising sign for the Hoosiers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
At West Virginia, DeVries averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, shooting 47.3% from beyond the arc. His return to full health comes as Indiana’s retooled roster arrives on campus this weekend, with the first team workout scheduled for June 2.

Looking ahead, Coach DeVries anticipates Tucker will be available for the three games Indiana has scheduled on its foreign tour of Puerto Rico in August. The Hoosiers will face the Puerto Rican All-Star team on Aug. 6 and play Mega Superbet, a professional club based in Belgrade, Serbia, on Aug. 9 and 11.
“You get those game opportunities, but more importantly just some time to spend together when you’ve got a whole new group and just try to build that cohesiveness on and off the floor,” Darian DeVries said. “I think it’s a terrific time for us to try and go do that.”

The exhibition games, set to take place at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, will offer a valuable opportunity for the team to build chemistry and for Tucker to ease back into competitive play.
As the Hoosiers gear up for the 2025–26 season, Tucker DeVries’ return adds experience and versatility to the roster. With his recovery progressing well, he appears poised to make a significant impact in his final collegiate season in Bloomington.
