Sam Alexis -- Florida forward transfer -- has committed to Indiana

Indiana basketball has landed a commitment from Florida forward Sam Alexis, announced on Thursday night.

Alexis averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds for the National Championship Florida Gators this season in a reserve role. He appeared in 24 games, averaging 11.9 minutes a game.

He had four games with 10+ points and one double-double.

His per-40 minute breakdown was: 15.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game.

Alexis is a long and athletic forward who is known for his defense, rebounding and rim protection. He had an offensive rebound rate of 14.5 percent this season, along with a block rate of 5.5 percent.

For reference, Trayce Jackson-Davis has been one the top offensive rebounder in recent Indiana basketball history — his highest offensive rebound rate was 11.8 as a freshman. He was at 10.1 as a senior. Kel’el Ware was less than 8 percent for both of his college seasons and Oumar Ballo was at 12.2 percent last year for Indiana.

Alexis is a 6-foot-9 and 230-pound forward who spent his first two seasons at Chattanooga, where he averaged 7.9 points and 6.5 rebounds in 65 games.

During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game. His block rate was at 9.1 percent and his offensive rebound rate was 25.7 percent.

He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Alexis joins Davidson hybrid forward Reed Bailey and incoming freshman Trent Sisley as the members of the Indiana front court.

Alexis is also the second commitment for Indiana on Thursday, joining Elon guard Nick Dorn.
