Texas Tech transfer guard Kevin Overton a name to monitor for Indiana

A name to monitor for Indiana basketball is Texas Tech transfer Kevin Overton. Overton has multiple connections to the IU roster after playing his freshman season at Drake.

Overton’s freshman season was in 2023-24 at Drake where he was teammates with Tucker DeVries and Conor Enright, and was coached by Darian DeVries.

Kevin Overton is a 6-foot-5 wing who averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds a game this season for Texas Tech. He shot 33.1 percent on 1.1 made 3s a game. Despite starting just one game, he scored in double-digits 11 times.

During Texas Tech’s NCAA Tournament run, Overton averaged 5.3 points in 22.3 minutes a game.

He had 12 points and seven rebounds in 37 minutes during Texas Tech’s Sweet Sixteen win over Arkansas.

Overton started all 35 games as a freshman at Drake and averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and shot 34.6 percent from three on 1.8 made 3s a game.

Overton is a downhill attacking guard who can create and finish through contact at the rim. He has a quick first step and good athleticism. The lefty has a nice stroke from three.

Indiana has three transfer additions this offseason in West Virginia wing Tucker DeVries, DePaul guard Conor Enright and Davidson hybrid forward Reed Bailey.
