Class of 2025 G/F Journey Houston talks commitment to Iowa
The All Iowa Attack to Iowa Women’s Basketball pipeline has been helpful for the Hawkeye coaching staff over the last few years. Caitlin Clark, Sydney Affolter, Kylie Feuerbach, Mackenzie Meyer and Ally Disterhoft are some of the current and former Hawkeyes that have played for the Des Moines based organization. Class of 2025 All Iowa Attack 5’11 G/F Journey Houston out of Davenport North High School announced her commitment to Iowa over Iowa State, Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State, DePaul and Wake Forest.
“Having an Iowa offer for me was a dream come true. I have always watched the program growing up,” said Houston. “My sister was going to go there, so I have known the coaching staff since I was seven years old. Knowing that I can play for them in just a few years still is just unbelievable to me.”
Houston is rated as a five-star recruit and the #19 overall recruit in the country by ESPN, while Prep Girls Hoops rates her as the #1 player in the state of Iowa. She becomes the first Hawkeye recruit since Caitlin Clark (#4-2020) to be ranked inside the top 20 by ESPN.
“I decided I wanted to go to Iowa because they are a great school when it comes to basketball, of course, but also outside of basektball, I plan on going into the medical field,” said Houston. “It is also close to home and I love being around my family and they can come support me at my games.”
As a freshman for Davenport North back in 2021-22, Houston averaged 20.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.8 offensive rebounds and 3.5 steals. This past season for the Wildcats, Houston averaged 18.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.8 offensive rebounds and 3.8 steals per game. North finished with a 21-3 record and advanced to the 5A State Tournament Quarterfinals. She was named a First Team All-MAC and a First Team All-State selection.
“For Iowa fans who want to know a little bit about what type of basketball player I am, I have a high motor and I love to win. I am very competitive and will always try to get a win with my team,” said Houston. “My strengths are getting to the basket and rebounding. My next step in my game is staying consistent and expanding on my outside game…I am working on my outside game because when I get to college I will play in the 2-3, possibly 4, but mostly 2-3 position.”

On the Nike Nationals circuit with All Iowa Attack, Houston averaged 10.2 points, 6.2 reb and 22.2 minutes per game over 18 games, while shooting 59.0% from the floor. At EYBL Session 1 back in April, she averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and shot 61.1% from the floor over six games.
“All Iowa Attack is a great program and they want their players to succeed. Playing with them has helped me develoop as a player and I have on season left,” said Houston. “I am looking forward to tweaking my game to the position I will play in college for this next season.”
Standing at 5’11, the first comparison that comes to mind is Sydney Affolter. Both Affolter and Houston rebound very well for their size, while showing the ability put it on the floor and get to the hoop. Journey also led Davenport North last year with 1.72 assist-to-turnover ratio. With two more years left in her high school career, there is plenty of time to improve and refine her game before she arrives at Iowa.
Associate Head Coach Jan Jensen and assistant coach Raina Harmon shared their excitement for the commitment on Twitter.
