No one of the Iowa women’s basketball team built more excitement for the future down the stretch last season than Ava Heiden. Wrapping up a true freshman season that saw her play mostly spot minutes at center behind Hannah Stuelke and Addi O’Grady, Heiden broke out late in the year, scoring in double figures in three of five postseason games. The hope is that late season momentum will act as a springboard into a breakout 2025-26 campaign as the starting center for the Hawkeyes.

Heiden caught up with the media after practice on Tuesday morning to discuss her comfortability going into year two at Iowa, what she’s been working on most this offseason, her thoughts on freshman center Layla Hays and more.
