When the calendar flips to March and postseason play begins, you want your team to be playing their best basketball. Lately, Jan Jensen’s Hawkeye squad has been playing like a team capable of making some serious waves this month. That trend continued, as Iowa was firing on all cylinders on Wednesday night, rolling past Wisconsin 81-54 to advance to the Second Round of the Big Ten Tournament.

The Hawkeyes fell into an early 9-6 hole but closed the first quarter on a 19-0 run and never looked back. Five different players knocked down a three-pointer in the first half to help build a 43-23 halftime lead. A quick 8-3 run in the third quarter extended the lead to 51-28, forcing Badgers head coach Marisa Moseley to take a timeout. It was smooth sailing from there. Iowa has now won 31 consecutive games over Wisconsin dating back to 2007.

Iowa scored 81 points on 66 possessions (1.227 points per possession), while shooting 35 of 61 (57.4%) from the floor, 11 of 20 (55.0%) from three-point range and 0 of 1 (0.0%) from the free throw line. Lucy Olsen led the way with 19 points and three made threes, while Syd Affolter added 9 points and seven rebounds. Kylie Feuerbach chipped in 9 points and 6 assists, while Taylor McCabe knocked down three triples, finishing with 9 points.

A lot stands out on the Hawkeyes side of the box score, but Kylie Feuerbach was +23 (21 mins), while Aaliyah Guyton was +23 (24 mins). They tied for the team lead in plus/minus for the game, while Lucy Olsen was +22 over 23 minutes. Ava Heiden also tallied six points and three rebounds over eight minutes.

Wisconsin scored 54 points on 66 possessions (0.818 points per possession), while shooting 21 of 55 (38.2%) from the floor, 6 of 13 (46.2%) from three-point range and 6 of 9 (66.7%) from the free throw line. Serah Williams paced the Badgers with 22 points and five rebounds. Ronnie Porter added six points and six assists.

The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Badgers 41-19, pulling down 30 of 35 (85.7%) defensive rebounds and 11 of 25 (44.0%) offensive rebounds. Iowa lost the turnover battle, but only turned it over six times in the first half. Despite that, the Hawkeyes still won the points off turnovers/second chance points battle 29-17.
