BOX SCORE RECAP: Hawkeyes topple Michigan State, advance to Big Ten Quarterfinals

The Hawkeyes defense has been a reliable asset for the majority of the season. On Thursday night, facing a Michigan State team that loves to ratchet up the defensive intensity, Iowa answered the call, riding their defense to a 74-61 win over the Spartans. After falling in East Lansing back on December 15th, the Hawkeyes earned a bit of revenge, punching their ticket to the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals.
A chaotic opening quarter for both sides led to the Spartans grabbing a 16-12 lead after ten minutes, but the Hawkeyes got things rolling in the second quarter. They forced 15 first half turnovers and used a 16-0 run to take a 32-25 lead into the locker room. The intensity went through the roof in the third quarter, with Jan Jensen picking up a technical foul. MSU went on a 9-4 run to take the lead, but Iowa ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 54-48 lead into the fourth. The Spartans pushed the envelope in the final quarter, but the Hawkeyes never let them break through. They finished the game on a 10-2 run and closed out the 74-61 win.
