The Buckeyes, energized, playing in their first game of the tournament jumped out to an early 14-5 lead. Although they shot under 35% in the first half, Iowa stayed in the game with their efforts on the defensive end, forcing ten turnovers and holding OSU to 15 points over the final 12:52 of the half. A 7-2 run fueled by another spark from Ava Heiden cut the Buckeyes advantage to 29-28 at halftime. The third quarter went back-and-forth with neither side able to gain any momentum. Late in the fourth, back-to-back made threes from Syd Affolter put Iowa in front 59-58, but Cotie McMahon got to line with 6.7 to play and made a pair of free throws to give the Buckeyes a 60-59 win.
