A successful season for first-year head coach Jan Jensen has come to a close. A year that had plenty of ups and downs ended with the Hawkeyes coming up short, falling to 3rd-seeded Oklahoma 96-62 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, with Kylie Feuerbach knocking down a pair of three-pointers, but Oklahoma answered with a 16-1 run to end the first quarter. That run gave the Sooners early control of the game and on their home floor, it gave them momentum that was going to be hard to overcome. After knocking down just 2/17 from behind the arc in the first half, the Sooners hit four triples in the third quarter, growing their lead to 68-43 with ten minutes to play. It’s the first loss all season where the Hawkeyes were not within striking distance with a few minutes remaining.

Iowa scored 62 points on 81 possessions (0.765 points per possession), while shooting 24 of 66 (36.4%) from the floor, 10 of 25 (40.0%) from three-point range and 4 of 7 (57.1%) from the free throw line. Lucy Olsen led the way with 20 points, while Kylie Feuerbach (14) and Hannah Stuelke (10) scored in double figures.

Oklahoma scored 96 points on 81 possessions (1.185 points per possession), while shooting 33 of 81 (40.7%) from the floor, 11 of 34 (32.4%) from three-point range and 19 of 27 (70.4%) from the free throw line. Six Sooners scored in double figures, led by Skylar Vann (17) and Payton Verhulst (16). Raegan Beers finished with a double-double 11 points and 13 rebounds.

A couple of areas of intrigue coming into the game, the Hawkeyes were uncharacteristically poor on the glass. The Sooners dominated the battle on the boards, outrebounding Iowa 64-33, including pulling down 24 offensive boards. Other areas that figured to be pivotal, the Hawkeyes were outscored 38-24 in the paint. The turnover battle went in favor of Oklahoma as well, with Iowa turning it over 20 times to just 15 for the Sooners.
