Brody Brecht, Marcus Morgan, Cade Obermueller speak at Iowa Baseball media day
The Iowa Baseball team is considered to have one of the best starting rotations in the entire country heading into the 2024 season. The Hawkeyes were just one of 15 teams to put all three of their starting pitchers inside the D1Baseball Top 150 starting pitcher rankings. Brody Brecht is the headliner on Friday, making waves with his triple-digit fastball and first round MLB Draft grades, while Marcus Morgan is set to start on Saturday. Morgan spent the last half of the year as the Hawkeyes Friday night starter and was on the short list for Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. Talented sophomore Cade Obermueller is set to go on Sunday’s and he is looking to follow a similar path as the two guys ahead of him in the rotation, which would be a big jump this season.
All three guys met with the media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss what they worked on over the offseason. Brody Brecht spoke about moving to baseball-only and how that changed what he was able to do this winter/fall. Marcus Morgan talked about building on the season he had last year, as well as pitching in a rotation that has three Friday night caliber arms. Cade Obermueller discussed what he learned during his freshman season last year, pitching in the Cape Cod League over the summer and what he has done over the offseason to earn a spot in the starting rotation.
