Cade McNamara appears to be Iowa's starting quarterback
The mystery, if there was one, of who would be named the starting quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes to open the 2024 season was likely solved on Thursday. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz announced that Cade McNamara would be Iowa’s starting quarterback if they played tomorrow. With the game a little more than a week away it’s very likely not going to change.
McNamara is in his second year with the Iowa program. Last year he injured his quad in the Kids Day practice on a run and was slowed early in the 2023 season. He started the first five games of the season before tearing his ACL against Michigan State.
Last year, McNamara completed 46 of 90 passes for 505 yards. He had four touchdown passes and three interceptions in those five contests.
After starting all 14 games in the 2021 season at Michigan, McNamara made one start tine follow year before seeing his season end after three games due to a knee injury. Following that year, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Iowa on December 1st.
