Caitlin Clark "OK" after collision with an OSU fan during the court storm

The Iowa women’s basketball team suffered their first loss in Big Ten play on Sunday afternoon against Ohio State, but the focus quickly turned to the health of Caitlin Clark after the game ended. As students and other fans from the sold out crowd at Value City Arena stormed the court in celebration, video on social media started to circulate of a fan colliding with Clark, as she attempted to exit the floor. Caitlin was helped off the floor and into the locker room by teammates. A team spokesperson said that Clark is okay, but the situation could have been a lot worse.
“Unfortunate the game ended that way and Caitlin gets taken out on the floor, gets some inappropriate words yelled at her by fans and students. That should not happen,” said head coach Lisa Bluder in the postgame press conference. “Our players should be safe, they should be able to walk off the floor. That’s very disappointing.”
Caitlin updated everyone on the situation in the postgame press conference and says that she will be ok. Clark finished the game with 45 points, three rebounds and seven assists.

“I’m okay…I could see they were storming the court, which is totally fine and good for their students, great win for them,” said Clark. “I was trying to exit the court as quickly as possible and I was absolutely hammered by somebody trying to run onto the court. Basically blindsided and that’s kind of scary. Could have caused a pretty serious injury. Got the wind knocked out of me, but luckily my teammates picked me up and got me off the court.”
Caitlin mentioned that Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith spoke with her after the incident and apologized for what transpired.
