Caitlin Clark to appear on ESPN+ show "Sue's Places"
Sue Bird and Caitlin Clark.
Two of the best to ever play women’s basketball.
At Connecticut, Bird was a three-time Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year award winner, a two-time national champion and won the 2002 Naismith Player of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Caitlin is two-time Lieberman Award winner, led the Hawkeyes to the Final Four in 2023 and won the 2023 Naismith Award. She is also just eight points away from breaking the NCAA all-time scoring record. Now, Bird and Clark are teaming up for an episode of Omaha Production’s “Sue’s Places” on ESPN+. The episode is set to air on Wednesday, February 14th.
Episode 1 was done at Sue’s alma mater Connecticut, featuring head coach Geno Auriemma, as well as Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd. Episode 2 sent Bird to Kansas with actor Jason Sudeikis to meet with Danny Manning, Mario Chalmers and Kansas head coach Bill Self.
In the soon to air episode, Sue Bird joins Caitlin Clark at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to discuss the origins of her logo three-pointers and the impact of her career on women’s basketball. Of course they put up a few shots throughout their conversation.
“I give a lot of credit to my dad. He was my first ever basketball coach, but he was a guy that never let me shoot threes when I was a young kid because he knew my form would be awful,” said Clark in the show. “I was tiny, I couldn’t get it there, so my dad was like, stay around the rim. That was always super important, just form shooting. I probably didn’t like it at the time, but looking back, shooting form fundamentals are the best thing.”

Later in the episode, Caitlin discusses what former college basketball players she tried to model her game after when she was growing up. One of those players, former BYU guard Jimmer Fredette, makes a surprise appearance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for a shooting contest against Caitlin.
“I vividly remember Jimmer Fredette’s tournament run,” said Clark. “Me and my cousin just would watch all of his games, watch his highlights on YouTube, so I’ve always been a big Jimmer fan.”
“She’s been such an incredible player to watch,” said Fredette. “As soon as I’d heard of her, I was like, I gotta go check her out. I remember last year during the tournament, tuning in and watching every single Iowa game. What an exciting time that was.”
Sue Bird captured the attention of Iowa fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, when she attended the Hawkeyes matchup against Bowling Green with Jason Sudeikis back on December 2nd. Caitlin finished the game with 24 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists in the Hawkeyes 99-65 victory.
