Cooper DeJean had quite a memorable 22nd birthday that he will be able to tell his kids and grandchildren about someday. Once again the former Hawkeye who certainly has the flare for the dramatic did it once again, this time in the biggest stage in sports.

With just over seven minutes left in the first half, DeJean read a pass from Patrick Mahomes perfectly and hauled it in and then scooted down the field, tumbling into the end zone for a 38 yard score to give the Eagles a 17-0 lead over the Chiefs.

It was the first pick six in the Super Bowl since Robert Alford from Atlanta picked off Tom Brady and returned it for a score eight years ago.

While the stage was much smaller back in his high school days at OABCIG in northwest Iowa, DeJean rallied his squad late in the 1A state title game in his senior year with a memorable touchdown run to put his team on top.

At the college level playing for the Hawkeyes, DeJean showed his flare for the dramatic. Who will forget the punt return that wasn’t against Minnesota that would have won the game for the Hawkeyes? It was just another example of how special DeJean is as a player.
