DeJean, Jones make Bruce Feldman's annual College Football Freaks List
Bruce Feldman’s annual College Football Freaks List has become a must read for football fans and NFL Draft junkies.
This year, two Iowa Hawkeyes are among those listed with defensive back Cooper DeJean checking in at No. 14 and center Logan Jones at No. 52.
Cooper DeJean
DeJean, the preseason defensive player of the year in the Big Ten, earns high praise in the article not only for his athleticism, but also for his versatility with the ability to play multiple positions in Iowa’s defense. Last season, he finished the year with 75 tackles and five interceptions, three of which were pick sixes, setting an all-time season record at Iowa.
In his research, Feldman spoke with NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen, who worked with DeJean this offseason, and sees the Odebolt, IA native turning some heads once he gets a chance to test for scouts.
“His numbers were insane,” Luallen says in the article. “He has the capability of breaking 4.3 (in the 40) at 210 pounds.”
DeJean, a junior, goes into the season as Iowa’s top cornerback, punt returner and an All-American candidate for the Hawkeyes. He has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Chuck Bednarik Award, and the Pul Hornung Award for verstility.

Logan Jones
Jones’ accomplishments in the weight room are nothing new to Hawkeye fans as he has been breaking records almost since the moment he arrived. This past off-season, he set the Iowa squat record at 700 pounds and is now second on the hang clean board at 465 pounds behind only Tristan Wirfs.
Jones also has a 36″ vertical, according to the article, and of course battled Gennings Dunker in the annual Solon Beef Days hay bale toss with both surpassing the all-time record before Dunker won with a height of 14’6″ and Jones finished second at 14’0″. Dunker, who is right behind Jones for the squat record at Iowa, could be one to watch down the road for Feldman on next year’s freaks list.
Jones, a junior, goes into the season as Iowa’s starting center and was recently named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List.
Past Iowa players on the Freaks List
DeJean and Jones join some good company when it comes to past Iowa players on Feldman’s freaks list in recent years. That includes Riley Moss and Monte Pottebaum in 2022, Tyler Linderbaum in 2021, Tristan Wirfs in 2019, Noah Fant in 2018, and Brandon Scherff in 2014.
