Dezmon Briscoe no longer committed to Iowa.

The Iowa basketball roster continues to disappear as the Hawkeyes still search for a new head coach. On Sunday, one of the verbal commits to Iowa, Dezmon Briscoe, announced on social media that he was going to de-commit from the Hawkeyes. But, he left the door open for a possible return.

“I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment due to the recent coaching change at the University of Iowa. I’m grateful for the love from the staff and fans. Iowa is still a program I’ll consider moving forward,” he said on social media.

The 6-foot-8 and 220 pound forward from Indianapolis, IN verbally pledged to Iowa back on December 20th after considering DePaul, Xavier, Butler, Cincinnati, and Duquesne.

Briscoe is the No. 201 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 48 power forward prospect and the No. 9 player in Indiana. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He becomes the second verbal commitment to Iowa to opt out of his pledge since Fran McCaffery was fired from his position as Iowa’s head coach. Also de-committing was four star wing prospect Joshua Lewis.

Iowa has also seen the bulk of its roster that could return enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Those players include: Owen Freeman, Brock Harding, Pryce Sandfort, Josh Dix. Ladji Dembele, Riley Mulvey, and Cooper Koch.
