Fran McCaffery on the win over the Wildcats
While some programs were more than willing to end their basketball season, Fran McCaffery and the Hawkeyes were more than willing to play on in the month of March. They did just that on Tuesday evening when they dispatched Kansas State in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament, 91-82 in front of 4,532 fans inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Following the win, McCaffery spoke about his two players that were “cookin'” on Tuesday night, Payton Sandfort and Ben Krikke. He talked about how Sandfort came out and played at a very high level right out of the gate and how Krikke stepped up his game in the second half leading Iowa to a victory.
