Four-star offensive lineman Gene Riordan has made his college decision. The highly sought after 6-foot-5, 280-pound Illinois native announced today that he will be playing college football at the University of Iowa for the Hawkeyes next year.

“I feel the culture and people within the program are fantastic,” Riordan told HawkeyeReport.com. “I can see myself fitting in well with the offensive line room and I think Coach Barnett is a great leader.”

Riordan, who had an impressive junior year at Hinsdale Central last season, chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Illinois, Penn State, Auburn, Minnesota, Louisville, Kansas, Iowa State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, NC State, Northwestern, Virginia, Kansas State, Marshall, San Diego State, Miami-OH, and Western Michigan.

“I believe Coach Ferentz is remarkable person and coach, and I cannot wait to play for him and the Hawkeyes,” said Riordan.

Overall, Riordan is commitment No. 9 for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2026 as he joins offensive linemen Carson NielsenHudson ParliamentOwen Linder, and Colin Whitters, quarterback Cash Herrera, wide receivers Brody Schaffer and Diondre Smith, and defensive back Marcello Vitti on Iowa’s list.

“I’m ecstatic,” Riordan said. “I really am honored to join the Iowa ’26 class. I think it is a great group of guys that can be fantastic as Hawkeyes.”

A four-star prospect with great athleticism, Riordan also plays lacrosse in high school. In football, On3 currently ranks him at No. 67 overall in the Class of 2026.
