The Iowa Hawkeyes have added a late commitment to their 2025 recruiting class in cornerback Jacob Wallace. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior from DeMatha Catholic made his official visit to Iowa City this weekend after picking up a scholarship offer from Hawkeye defensive coordinator Phil Parker this past week.

“I always knew I could play at the Power Four level,” Wallace told HawkeyeReport.com. “I just needed an opportunity.”

A two-sport athlete with Division I opportunities in both football and basketball, Wallace has been a mainstay in the starting lineup for DeMatha, but really took his game to the next level as a senior, according to head coach Bill McGregor.

“He’s a three-year starter for us in football and he’s also a three-year starter in basketball at point guard,” said McGregor. “With us, he’s played corner and returned punts and kickoffs, and this past year made All-WCAC, All-Met, and All-State. He just had a great year for us.”

A great year is right with 41 tackles, seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and three defensive touchdowns on Wallace’s resume in 2024.

During the recruiting process, Wallace earned scholarship offers from West Virginia, USF, Marshall, Howard, Akron, Central Michigan, Ohio, Temple, Charlotte, and New Hampshire. Then, this past week, came Iowa, where he will get to work with Phil Parker, who is well known for getting the most out his players.

“Coach Parker is one of the best at developing defensive backs,” said Wallace.

Wallace’s older brother, Josh Wallace, was a starter at cornerback on Michigan’s national championship team in 2023. He began his career at Massachusetts after graduating from DeMatha in 2019, then joined the Wolverines as a grad transfer, and is now with the Los Angeles Rams. Now, younger brother Jacob Wallace, will have a chance to play in the Big Ten as well in college.

“Iowa really likes his overall athleticism,” said McGregor. “Obviously, he comes from a very athletic family. He’s very active, very athletic, and just loves to compete. I think he can be a top of the line cornerback.”

Overall, Wallace is high school commitment No. 16 for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2025.
