Hawkeyes in the NFL: Week 5 Top Performers
Another week of football is in the books and that means it’s time to take a look back at how former Hawkeyes fared. At the moment, there are 27 former Hawkeyes on active NFL rosters, while an additional seven players are either on injured reserve or on the practice squad. Unfortunately, the week got off to a poor start, as it was announced that Pittsburgh offensive guard James Daniels will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles. He was graded as the 3rd-best offensive lineman in the entire league through four weeks per Pro Football Focus.
Honorable Mention Performances
OT Alaric Jackson – 83.1 OVR, 85.7 pass block grade, 10th-best pass grade for Week 5 vs Green Bay
OT Tristan Wirfs – 90.2 pass block grade, 3rd-best pass grade for Week 5 vs Atlanta
DB Dane Belton – 6 tkls vs Seattle
1. Denver DB Riley Moss
Denver’s win over Las Vegas on Sunday will be a game that will stick in the head of Riley Moss for the rest of his life. Not because the Broncos won, but because Riley pulled down his first career interception late in the third quarter. He finished the game with four tackles, two passes defended and the interception. Moss is the first Iowa defensive back to record an interception this season, while it’s the first one since Dane Belton picked off two passes against the Rams during week 17 last season.
On the year, Riley Moss has totaled 33 tackles, four passes defended, one forced fumble and one interception. Of the 17 cornerbacks in the NFL that have been targeted at least 30 times this season, Moss ranks fifth in lowest completion percentage allowed (61.3%). Meanwhile, his 79.0 coverage grade by Pro Football Focus ranks 8th-best out of 74 corners that have played at least 120 snaps this season.

2. San Francisco TE George Kittle
The 49ers were unable to get a win on Sunday afternoon against Arizona, but tight end George Kittle had a big receiving day. Kittle was targeted 12 times, totaling eight receptions for 64 yards, including a touchdown that gave San Francisco the lead late in the first quarter. He now has a touchdown reception in each of his last three games, which is the first time he has done that since he scored in four straight games back during the 2022-23 season (Week 14-17).
On the season, Kittle has accumulated 23 catches for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Despite missing the 49ers week three game due to injury, George ranks fourth in catches by a tight end and fifth in receiving yards.
3. Indianapolis RB Tyler Goodson
After earning just 12 snaps through three games for the Colts, Tyler Goodson got a chance to make some things happen on Sunday against Jacksonville. Goodson played 29 snaps, finishing with eight touches for 57 yards, including three receptions for 31 yards. He caught a trick play pass for 24 yards that helped set up Indianapolis for a game-tying field goal right before halftime. Colts starting running back Jonathan Taylor suffered high ankle sprain in week four, which allowed Goodson to move up the depth chart.
4. Dallas DE Chauncey Golston
The Dallas defense was in the backfield many times during their Sunday Night Football win over Pittsburgh. The Cowboys totaled 14 quarterback pressures, four tackles for loss and three sacks. Former Hawkeye defensive end Chauncey Golston had a solid night, finishing with five tackles and a team-high four quarterback pressures on just 29 pass rush snaps. It’s just the fourth time in his career (52 games) that he has registered four or more QB pressures. On the season, Golston has 13 tackles, 2.0 sacks and is third on the team with 11 quarterback pressures.
