The Hawkeyes landed a big commitment on Tuesday afternoon.

Addison Deal has made her college decision. The 6’0, five-star guard out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Deal chose Iowa over offers from LSU, Stanford, Iowa State, Indiana, Arizona, Oregon, USC, UCLA and many others.

Rated as the #12 overall player and the #9 guard in the country by ESPN, she is the highest-rated recruit to commit to Iowa since Caitlin Clark (#4) back in 2020. She is also rated as the #1 player in California by Prep Girls Hoops.

“The coaching staff felt like a family. A lot of coaching staffs have been great to me, but I really felt apart of the family from day one with both the coaching staff and players,” Deal told HawkeyeReport.

Addison recently visited Iowa City for the Hawkeyes season-finale win over the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on March 3rd.

“I was so grateful to be able to watch such a great game. It was amazing to finally see a game live with my brother and parents,” said Deal after her visit. “My favorite part of the trip was definitely just being able to be in Carver with such an incredible, loud atmosphere and also getting to spend time with the coaching staff.”

As a freshman in 2021-22 at Pacifica Christian High School, Deal averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, 5.5 assists and four steals per game for a Tritons team that made it to the second round of the CIF SoCal Division II Regional Playoffs. She was named the CIF-SS Division 4A and Academy League Player of the Year, as well as a selection to the All-County First Team.

Deal opted to transfer to well known Mater Dei High School for her sophomore year last season. She was named Orange County Player of the Year, averaging 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals for a Mater Dei team that went 29-4. This past summer, Addison was a part of the U17 Cal Stars EYBL team that put together a 52-7 record.

This season, Addison had her season cut short, suffering a Grade 3 sprained ankle “with possible torn ligaments” in Mater Dei’s final game at a Nike Tournament in Arizona in late December.

“What stands out to me the most about the Iowa WBB program is their style of play, the fans, the staff, and the bond between teammates,” Deal told HawkeyeReport after her visit back in October. “Even with the amount of success they had last year, it was great to see them working as hard as they did for a long practice.”

“My two favorite parts were watching practice and being able to spend time with the players at dinner. Love how hard they work on the court and also love how fun they are off the court.”

The entire offer list for Deal included, Iowa, LSU, Stanford, Utah, UCLA, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Arizona, North Carolina, Iowa State, Washington State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Baylor, Oregon State, TCU, BYU, Georgia Tech, California, Harvard, Columbia and Vanderbilt.

Addison Deal joins 5’11, four-star guard Journey Houston in the 2025 recruiting class for the Hawkeyes. Houston is rated as the #36 player in the country by ESPN and the #3 player in the state of Iowa by Prep Girls Hoops.
