The Christmas break has wrapped up and now it is time to get back on the court for Big Ten play. The Iowa women’s basketball team plays host to border rival Minnesota this afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Today will be the 84th all-time meeting between the Hawkeyes and Golden Gophers, with Iowa leading the series 56-27. As of late, Lisa Bluder has had her team locked in for this matchup. The Hawkeyes have won the last eight meetings and have won 13 straight meetings in Iowa City.

Lisa Bluder and the Hawkeyes enter the matchup with a 12-1 record, including wins over #11 Kansas State and #14 Virginia Tech. Iowa sits at #4 in the AP Poll, with their lone loss coming at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to K-State on November 16th. They are currently on a nine game winning streak and are seventh in the country in points per game (90.5). The Hawkeyes are led by Caitlin Clark who is averaging 30.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. Last time out, Iowa defeated Loyola-Chicago 98-69, behind big nights from Clark (35 pts), Hannah Stuelke (20 pts) and Kate Martin (19 pts).

As for Minnesota, they come into the game with an 11-1 record, including wins over Drake, Purdue and Kentucky. The Gophers received votes in the latest AP Poll and are looking to get into the top 25 for the first time since 2020. Since their lone loss to #15 Connecticut on November 19th, Minnesota has won eight games in a row. They are led by sophomore guard Mara Braun who is averaging 20.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Last time out, the Gophers defeated Lindenwood 100-45, behind 21 points from Braun and a double-double by Maggie Czinano.
