In-state WR Reece Vander Zee commits to Iowa
In-state wide receiver Reece Vander Zee is going to be a Hawkeye. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Vander Zee, who made an official visit to campus this past weekend, officially announced his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff today.
“I really just felt like the program was a family,” Vander Zee told HawkeyeReport.com. “Everyone was so welcoming and they are all like best friends and that’s something I want to be a part of.”
A three-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 86.44, Vander Zee chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Iowa State, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Air Force, South Dakota State, Montana State, UNI, Furman, and Yale.
“I really like how professional they are at Iowa,” said Vander Zee. “How they always do the little things right and pay attention to every detail.”
As a junior, the multisport star finished the football season with 32 catches for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns for Class 2A state champion Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. At Iowa, he will be joining high school teammates in Zach Lutmer and Graham Eben next year.

“Obviously, it helps that two of my teammates are going to be there with me as well, so that played a little bit of a role in my decision, but I would’ve committed even if those guys weren’t there,” Vander Zee said.
Overall, Vander Zee is commitment No. 14 for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2024. He joins Cam Buffington, Cody Fox, Preston Ries, Derek Weisskopf, Josh Janowski, James Resar, Drew Campbell, Xavier Williams, Brevin Doll, Bodey McCaslin, Will Nolan, Michael Burt, and Devan Kennedy in the Iowa’s recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 30 in the country.
“They have a proven system at Iowa and it has worked countless times,” said Vander Zee. “I can’t wait to be a part of something bigger than myself and I’m ready to be a Hawkeye.”
