Iowa Field Hockey defender Lauren DeRose to miss the upcoming season
The Iowa Field Hockey team was ranked #1 for several weeks last season, but a couple of injuries to key players caused the season to unravel. Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, they will be without at least one player this season. HawkeyeReport learned on Friday afternoon that sophomore defender Lauren DeRose will miss the entirety of the upcoming season with an injury.
A true freshman from Collegeville, PA, DeRose appeared in 16 games with ten starts last season for an Iowa team that finished with a 13-6 overall record. She averaged 35.4 minutes per game, including playing every minute of the Hawkeyes wins over North Carolina and Central Michigan. DeRose recorded a defensive save against Ohio State on September 29th.

A member of the 2023 recruiting class, DeRose was a MAX Field Hockey Top 50 player. Playing for The Agnes Irwin School, she was a two-time First Team All-State selection.
The Hawkeyes back line still is set to return junior Milly Short (19 starts last season) and fifth-year senior Harper Dunne (67 career starts). However, head coach Lisa Cellucci will be looking for another player to step into the now open spot on the back line of the defense. Incoming freshman defender Hannah Maney from Cape Henlopen, DE is a name to watch. She was a First Team All-State selection as a senior and won Defense Player of the Year in Delaware.
