Iowa Football ranked 25th in preseason AP Poll
The Iowa football program was just outside the preseason Top 25 of the USA Today coaches poll that was released last week. This time around, the preseason Associated Press poll included the Hawkeyes.
Iowa was ranked 25th in the first Associated Press poll of the college football season that was released on Monday afternoon. This is the 27th time in program history that Iowa has started the season in the Top 25 and the 10th time in the tenure of head coach Kirk Ferentz.
The highest Iowa has been ranked to start the season in the Ferentz era was 9th in 2010. The Hawkeyes were 24th to start the season in the Covid year of 2020 and they followed that up by being ranked 18th the following year. Last season, Iowa was among the schools receiving votes to start the season.

New Top 25 shows big fallout from Saturday
Last season, Iowa was never officially ranked, so the last time the they appeared in the Associated Press poll was to end the 2021 season when they were ranked 23rd overall after a 20-17 loss to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.
There are four Big Ten schools ranked to start the 2023 college football season. Michigan is ranked 2nd and Ohio State is 3rd. Penn State comes in at 7th and Wisconsin is ranked 19th. Iowa travels to Penn State for a game on September 23rd and also travels to Wisconsin on October 14th.
